Joint Pain
As we age, our ability to heal gradually takes longer and longer.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
If you're suffering from back and joint pain, there are options to get to the root of the cause and get you set up to heal quickly and efficently.
Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy is a regenerative injection therapy that is used to stimulate the body to repair a painful area when the natural healing process needs a little assistance. Most chronic musculoskeletal pain is caused by injured ligaments and tendons that have not completely healed. Prolotherapy stimulates the body to heal, strengthen and rebuild weakened ligaments, tendons, and joints – even years after the initial injury- thereby greatly reducing or eliminating pain. Most conditions require 3-6 sessions every 4-6 weeks of prolotherapy. Some conditions respond with 1-2 visits, while chronic degenerative joints may need therapy for one to two years.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP is an injection of concentrated platelets, which are activated and release an assortment of growth factors that stimulate the healing of tissues, including ligaments and tendons. PRP can help initiate and speed up your healing process to support tissue healing, restore blood flow, create new cell growth, and tissue regeneration.
Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy works to decrease pain in both chronic and acute conditions. Mesotherapy consists of a series of microinjections of collagen stimulating substances or medications into the dermis. There is enough evidence to support its use for pain management.
Nutrition
Nutrition is hugely important when treating any musculoskeletal condition. Your collagen is only as healthy as you are. We will look at your diet and optimize your nutrition with supplementation. Studies support the use of glucosamine and chondroitin for cartilage protection at 1500mg/1200mg respectively. Replacing NSAIDs with Turmeric and Fish oil can also be hugely beneficial for healing when used at the appropriate dosage and form for optimal absorption.
Ultrasound Guided Injections
Ultrasound-guided injections improve the safety and effectiveness of regenerative medicine treatments. Ultrasound can be used to facilitate the injections of anesthetics, anti-inflammatories, regenerative medicine treatments and other medications.
Ultrasound-guided injections are superior to “blind” injections because they improve the accuracy of the needle placement. This allows the physician to avoid painful or dangerous areas, or just direct the treatment to a very specific area.
In addition, the ultrasound allows the physician to inject structures that would not normally be possible to hit “blindly” such as nerves, bursa, fascial restrictions, and fluid collections. Ultrasound-guided procedures do not require anesthesia, and there is no radiation from the ultrasound machine.
Guided injections can be used for almost any minimally invasive procedure. One of the most common procedures is prolotherapy with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) which is used to reduce pain and restore mobility in soft tissues and joints and is especially effective for chronic tendon and ligament problems.
